And there I was in Seattle, standing on a dimly lit street corner outside of the El Corazon. We'd spent the night checking out Alternative Press Tour 2008, highlights included waving white flags for The Matches, and searching desperately when little Sonny Moore jumped off stage and even his band lost of track of him.
The Matches used to do these acoustic sets outside of venues, right? I heard they were something of legends, these intimate little performances, however, after like... two years worth of Matches shows, I had yet to see one. My friends (as seen above, I'm in the red) and found ourselves hanging out outside the venue, eyes peeled for a sign of them, acoustic guitars in hand. When they didn't show, we spent some time hanging out with Sonny Moore.
Sonny's real cute like. I'm 5'3", we nearly see eye to eye. He's maybe an inch taller than me if that. Real nice though. He led us around the corner towards a streetlamp, and introduced us to his friend Joe, a little red headed man. According to Sonny, he was magic. It just so happened he had a deck of cards on him. I'm still in absolute shock at what I saw. I can link you to a video, but I don't know if you'll be able to experience it like we did. Magic Joe; the man, the legend. I was talking to him after the show, and said something like, "These videos are going to make you an internet celebrity." He laughed and said back to me, "Yeah! I just got back from doing a Sonic's halftime show. That was a lot of fun."
For those of you who aren;t familiar with Seattle. The Sonics USED to be our basketball team, but they've up and left us. Anyway, this was winter, basketball season, and there had been a game that night. I DID NOT KNOW THIS AT THE TIME. I thought he was kidding. Some research later on revealed Magic Joe is an AMAZING magician, and did in fact, do the Sonic's half time show. He doesn't need my shite video to make him an internet celebrity. He's the man. The magic man, actually. I think you should check him out. He'll blow your mind.
